Eurovision is a weird contest, and after viewing every winner, I hold my remark. The show had humble beginnings, but as the years progressed, the contestants experimented.

Airing all across Europe since 1956 and the most viewed show competition on the planet, it makes you wonder how several of the happiest nations make strange music.

I have a theory: Europeans find solace in obscurity since it’s boring living a happy and prosperous life.

We shall prove this theory as I list this competition’s memorable and unique winners.

Refrain — Lys Assia (1956)

The first winner of Eurovision can’t go unnoticed with her cheery orchestral ballad. If Lys Assia were alive today, she would see the show evolve from benign band music to Lordi.

Net Als Toen — Corry Brokken (1957)
