My writing companions have given me another challenge. This time I’m writing about the five songs and movies that define me. I had difficulties putting together five songs because I’m more of an album guy, yet it gave me a chance to dig deep in the confines of my mind to find what songs represent me.

For movies, it was easy since I’ve watched them and told myself, “Yes, these are my favorites.”

Before I begin, I arranged the five songs the first time I heard them, and the movies have no particular order.

Without further ado, here are the songs and films that define me.

Forest—System of a Down

From Toxicity

Before I heard albums, I would listen to the singles from my favorite bands and artists. Among those, “Forest” is the one that stood out given its aggressive guitar power chords, screeches from vocalist Serj Tankian after each verse, and the melody in the chorus that blends everything together.

Toxicity isn’t my favorite album, but “Forest” makes the listen more enthralling.
