Two years ago, I returned to college after a three-year break. I returned to college because my online writing was doing well, and I wanted to learn more about it. So, I applied for a journalism degree.

My success on Medium is not a hunch. Professors and students have told me I’m a good writer and journalist. I’m glad I am in the right major.

Either way, this semester was okay. I learned about a different type of journalism writing: broadcast writing. Unlike articles, broadcast writing relies on short scripts that use conversational writing.

Even though I struggled, I did well in the class. Every other student did an excellent job, too, and the professor said that this was the first time she had given almost every student an A.

If that isn’t a compliment, I don’t know what is.

Compared to other semesters, the fall was boring. Nothing interesting happened. There was the U.S. election, but it was predictable.

Come on, guys. Get your head out of your ass. I saw those results a mile away.

Wait, now that I think about it. My little brother did start going to college. Since I don’t drive on the freeways, and he does, he took me to college. As I would’ve guessed, my 20-year-old brother was unhappy driving around his almost thirty-year-old brother.

Our rocky relationship only escalated, and I knew I had to change plans quickly. I asked to carpool with a friend, and he did for the rest of the semester. The drive worked out because we both liked metal. Nothing was better than listening to death and black metal at 10 a.m.

Aside from that, I also spoke with my major advisor. He helped me work around my social anxiety and get on the college newspaper.

That didn’t pan out.

I also spoke to a college therapist for a few sessions. It went well — I wish I had done it sooner.

I did just that for the spring semester, and as I did, I changed my mind—no more behavioral therapy. I am happy with its guidance, but I have had enough complaining. I need to take action.

Even though I had pitfalls, I got all A’s. I wasn’t sure if I would get an A in the blood science class since I had a rough start, but my grades only improved as the semester progressed. I’m hoping to keep it up in my next and final semester.

You heard right.

I’m graduating this coming May.

Once I have the degree, I don’t know what to do outside Medium. I might look for an independent entertainment publication that will accept me.

Until then, let’s make sure I get my degree.
